In My Words
Sunday, 3 September 2006
So what does a bright, pretty, 20-something girl do on a Sunday night here in the boondocks? Evidently nothing but check her email and updating a blog. I really really really really need to wash my hair... You try using Aussie's Instant Freeze on your hair and then try to comb it out. Not happening. This afternoon I painted my room for the second time. I'm exp001705052ecting to move in very soon. Hopefully this week?? Mom and I went to Portland yesterday. It was fun to be in a city that was actually moving. I'm happy that Kohl's is coming to Auburn--I know it's just one of the first of many big new changes for Auburn, and I hope it lasts. This city needs to figure out what it wants to be when it grows up!!

Wow!! Lycos has really changed things since I last logged in to my blog! I apologize for not updating more regularly, but you see, not much has happened this summer. To be completely honest, it's been one of the worst summers of my life--didn't even feel like summer! I worked here at Electrolux as a salesman, and now as a secretary all summer and didn't even get to go on the family vacation. Now I'm switching jobs; I'm going to be working at Kohl's one week from today (uh-oh, I feel a wardrobe change coming on). I went through training on Monday and I have a ton of training left to do. Dr. Voegtlin was at our church Monday and Tuesday. I was really considering being out of town, but then decided against it. Since I can't drive my new car yet, and I don't think Dad would consider that a worthwhile reason to take his car out of state, I don't think I could have gotten away with it anyway. Monday I was in training anyway and didn't get home until 10:15. Tuesday wasn't bad. The organ had been acting up on Sunday--I couldn't even play for the regular services--but it was fine last night. I think it needs to be cleaned. I feel a rant coming on... Just for the record: I liked the '90s! They were a fun time. I know anything in the nineties is already massively dated (Can you believe I can look at a hairstyle in an old tv show and already say, "Oh wow, that's nineties hair."???) but it was a good decade. The economy was growing, I was growing... I hadn't become a pessimist yet, and the world looked good. Man I miss those days!

So here I am watching the branch for Laura and Matt... I have to be here until 4:00 and then I have three appointments after. Hhmmm. I'm not really sure what to do. I'm finished with this job after today, but then what? I'll be between jobs for a while possibly. I have a half-filled out application to Panera Bread (in Augusta, 45 minutes north of Peru), and Laura has offered me an office job here at the Aerus branch. Both seem like decent jobs... So anyway, here I am stuck until 4:00, LOL. I have an interesting story from the paperroute to report. *grins to self* We always have fun stories on the paper route, but this one is funner than normal. So it's Wednesday morning, and I'm tired. It was my second straight day of the paper route, and I was working full days during the day. Every morning, Julie and I drive my car to the regular paper carrier's house and pick up his car to take on the route. This morning was no exception and we coasted along, rather half asleep down the windy, curving asphalt that is Green Woods Road. Just as we hit a long straight stretch, where there is basically nothing except a broken down old shed, a man suddenly hops out of the bushes or something and starts trying to flag us down! It's 2:00 in the morning and there is this man--first one minute he's not there, and then the next minute he is--in just cut-offs. Julie and I screamed and I floored the gas pedal. Julie quickly locked all the doors and I just drove until I was a couple of miles away. Then I called Mom and she said to call the police. I called it in and mentioned that we had seen something dark in the ditch that might have been a vehicle: I mean, why else would someone be on that road? So then a few minutes later I get a call from the Maine state police saying they had found the man but not a vehicle, and wanted to know if they had the right guy. I said yes, but was (in my head) confused. Where had the guy come from? Well, I had done my civic duty and was feeling pretty pleased with myself, so I finished the route. Later that afternoon I found a voicemail on my phone from Trooper Stevenson, from the Maine State police, wanting to ask me a few questions about the "incident" the night before. After about four days of trying to get BACK in touch with him he started by asking my name and my date of birth. I was driving at the time and I was like, "Is this guy going to arrest me? What did I do, call in the governor or something?" But it turned out that the guy had been in some sort of accident (hit and run?) and had fled the scene of the accident and had to be arrested. In fact, the officer told me that he had to wrestle with the guy in the bushes! Good thing we didn't stop! So anyway... that's my interesting story.

I'm so sorry it's been so long since I updated this! I'm actually at work (cushy, eh?) and it will be a while before my first appointment. Oh, nvm Matt and I have an appointment at 10:30. But anyway. I bought a little car. It's one of the most hideous colors in the universe (think XP blue!) but it will get me from place to place. I'll have to post a picture of it sometime... More later.

Hey, y'all. I took the weekend off work. What normal person doesn't? Ok, ok, normal college students work constantly. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So my bosses are getting back tomorrow morning. I'm actually up a half hour after my bedtime. I usually go to bed at ten, but... it's ten thirty. Tuesday and Wednesday morning Julie and I have the paper route again so I'm going to be dead for the rest of the week.

Today I made two sales. Well, yeah, ok. Laura was there and did most of the talking, but I set up the appointment and everything... and I get 50% of the commission and the credit for going there. :-D Yeah, that was cool. Everyone is going to cool places for the summer!! It's not fair! How come I'm stuck in Maine????? Ok, fine, I'll just sulk somewhere.

I'm thinking about so many people right now. I miss everybody. Susanna, Rachel, Sarah, Abby, and... others. I think I'll write a poem or something. I watched National Treasure on Friday. Yeah, I know, "Why didn't you watch it before?!" Anyway, it was an awesome movie, of course. What was cool was: I was able to figure out (almost) all the riddles before Ben Gates did. (he he). So yeah. My favorite quote? Riley: "It's a big blue-ish green man... with a strange-looking goatee... I'm guessing that's significant." *hugs statue*

I'm in a funky mood. I don't know why, really. I've been working really hard at my job and I don't know why I'm not getting many sales, but Laura (the branch manager in the Auburn branch of Aerus/Electrolux) says to keep doing what I'm doing and I will. It's really hard to get fifteen appointmnents per week. Just in case anyone was wondering. Love you all!

COOL DULES!!! This is a theory that shows amazing potential. However, this made me mad. You may or may not see things wrong w/ it, but here's what made me angry: the author of the piece and the scientist who was interviewed both referred to Harry Potter and J. K. Rowling as setting the example of invisible cloaks and mentioned that it was simply one more case of science following fantasy. Anyone see a problem with this? Anyone??? Anyone??????? Yeah, exactly, there have been theories of invisibility cloaks around since the days of the Greeks! In fact, at least the way I interpret this story, the invisibility cloaks described in Lord of the Rings are a much better match with this idea. Anyway, the whole deal is pretty much wrapped up with this last article.
